2010 in Review

There are some in the photographic community who believe that a photograph is made by the photographer and not his or ker kit.  I agree.  But, when you make a leap from an amateur camera to pro kit there's no doubt in my mind that the photographs that then are made are inherently better.  Same photographer, better kit, better photographs.

In 2010 I took the plunge, forced myself into debt, and bought a Canon 5dmkii and a 24-105mm f/4 L lens.  I invested in a decent Manfrotto (190xdb) tripod with a three-way head (804rc2)  (http://www.jacobsdigital.co.uk/p-48778-jacobs-digital-manfrotto-190xdb804rc2-tripod-kit.aspx) and, after seeing the inspirational work of Julius Tjintjelaar (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tjintjelaar/) added a B+W ND110 filter to my kit (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-b-w-77mm-nd-110-3-0-sh-filter/p1013508).

What a year it has been - I've secured commissions that have set me on the road to a career in photography to run alongside my continuing practice of architecture.

I'm hoping that 2011 continues the success of 2010 and that I'll be able to grow what was once a hobby into a successful business.
